Concerts for the Trees We need to raise our sight above terrorism and the disease of war. We need to look to life itself with vision of the sacred. The sacred is in all life forms. We are all aspects of God, or Infinite Energy. We are all instruments of Sound, Light and Music. We live in extremely perilous times. Our home on Planet Earth is drastically jeopardized by human desecration of the life force as the ocean and forest ecosystems are being ravaged. Just as humans are suffering terribly all over the world, non-human beings are suffering, dying and becoming extinct, never to be seen on the face of Mother Earth again. We are experiencing the VERY LAST ANCIENT REDWOOD FOREST, of which approximately three percent of the original growth remains. Thousands of species on Earth become extinct every year. Within the Sequoia forest, many species are just about gone: the marbled murrelet birds, spotted owls, gray fox and coho salmon are a few. These creatures lives amongst the last few thousand acres of two-thousand year-old redwood trees in the most northerly part of California. This is where Julia Butterfly Hill lived high atop the branches of one she called, "Luna" for two years without touching the soil until at least this one tree was protected from the ravages of Pacific Lumber Co. Even Home Depot has finally agreed not to buy any more redwood lumber taken from old growth forests. However, Maxxam is continuing to clear-cut whole mountainsides and remove fallen trees, an action that intrudes into sensitive nesting areas that cannot afford to be disturbed. The forest ecosystem provides 20 percent of the oxygen we mammals need to breathe. The bodies of water provide the other 80 percent. So, with the destruction of the last rainforests of the Amazon (down to about 30 percent) and the last redwood forest, we simply will not have oxygen.... Even a few thousand acres is enough to restore the Forest. But we don't have much time at all, as this lumber company continues to clear-cut whole mountain sides and destroy the ancient trees and their inhabitants for profit, with hundreds of violations of environmental law. President Clinton devoted $480 million to save Headwaters Forest, but it is still being ravaged. It takes more than money to save life on Earth. It takes people voicing their concern and acting on it. Loriel Golden is an independent musician who composes and records songs to revitalize the Life Force, and to warm everyone's heart and soul. "Music hath charms to soothe the savage beast." Loriel composes for voice, keyboard and guitar in the styles of early/middle Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, Joan Baez, Laurie Anderson, Celine Dion. She also likes to incorporate ethnic instrumentation with other players, as well as the natural sounds of water flowing, birds/squirrels chirping, and wind blowing are interwoven amongst the guitars and drums on her original song, "Sequoia." This song can be downloaded from TIMELESSSOUND.NET, where you can also view beautiful photos of the redwoods and learn more about them. Loriel proposes CONCERTS FOR THE TREES to inspire the attention and respect for the last of our great forest beings who support our lives with their simplicity and pristine vitality. She has initiated the idea of a record company called, TIMELESS SOUND for the purpose of gathering artists, managers, producers, publicists and anyone else who is sincerely interested in supporting the restoration of our ancient redwood forest with concerts and record production. Through tickets and recording sales, we can support non-profit groups including EPIC (the Environmental Protection Information Center in Humboldt Co.) She is also seeking a way to involve other nature support groups including the Natural Resources Defense Council (Robert Redford on the board), and the Sierra Club. Other groups and individuals who wish to commit to the Concerts are welcome. CONCERTS FOR THE TREES need the support of those who still believe in the power of love and music to change this world! We need financial support for C.D. mass production and distribution. Please contact Loriel Golden if you have money, time, energy, or music connections to contribute: (310) 207-3484 or Lorielg@prodigy.net Loriel is seeking a way to send her C.D., "Sequoia" and Concert invitation to Bonnie Raitt, a long time redwood activist via her management company, and to Julia Butterfly Hill. Please contact Loriel at Timeless Sound as soon as you possibly can while we still have air to breathe! There will be a new Initiative coming out of the attorney general's office around Jan. 2, which will ban the cutting of all ancient trees born before 1,850. This includes both forests and single stands. We need people like Bonnie to come forward and publicize this bill and our need to collect 700,000 signatures for the 420,000 valid ones within just five months of the authorization of the bill, which I believe is called the Heritage Tree Initiative. Peace Through Music Loriel Golden Please contact Loriel Golden if you have money, time, energy, or music connections to contribute to this cause. Loriel is also would like to contact Bonnie Raitt. If you know how to contact her please email her at Lorielg@prodigy.net and please send a cc to blyspirit@aol.com. You can call Loriel at (310) 207-3484. Please see her website. In peace, Alan
